Abaris President and Senior Engineer to Present at AeroDef 2019

Abaris’ own Greg Kress, senior engineering instructor and Michael J. Hoke, president, will be presenting a pre-conference workshop titled “New Composite Repair Methods to Achieve Regulatory Approval” at AeroDef on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm. This presentation will cover current repair techniques for advanced composites, including examples of a very large repair to a pressure vessel and some newer repair developments. More recent concerns from the FAA and EASA will be covered in detail. Furthermore, the analysis and substantiation of composite repairs requires an in-depth understanding of the orthotropic nature of composite materials and structures. In this workshop the Abaris team explores the acceptance of composite repairs that are beyond the scope of existing repair limits that requires approved data and analysis methods deemed acceptable to the regulatory authority. The legacy application of composite materials on fairing panels, engine cowlings, flight controls surfaces, and other secondary structures presented a challenge to engineer and the modern use of composite materials on primary structure and pressurized fuselage presents a higher level of complexity to meet repair substantiation requirements. For this reason, composite engineers must now have an even greater understanding of advanced composite analysis methods, damage tolerance, and material data requirements. This workshop intends to address these issues.
