Tecniplas Highlights the Suitability of FRP Tanks for Contact with Drinking Water

June 25 2018

Tecniplas, the Brazilian leader in FRP tanks and equipment, is once again a guaranteed presence at Fispal Tecnologia, the main fair of the food and beverage industry in Latin America – June 26 to 28, at Sao Paulo Expo.

In this year's edition, Tecniplas's objective is to highlight the adequacy of its reservoirs to ministerial order 2,941, of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, which provides for the safety of materials that are in contact with drinking water. “Besides being non-toxic and innocuous, FRP is more competitive than the stainless steel normally used in tanks installed in the food industry,” said Luis Gustavo Rossi, director of Tecniplas. With the same dimensions and technical characteristics, reinforced plastic tanks can cost up to 35% less than stainless steel.

Although it is a consolidated alternative of material worldwide, FRP is still being discovered by the Brazilian food industry. One of the most recent cases was the supply that Tecniplas made to Leao Alimentos e Bebidas, a company belonging to Coca-Cola. With a capacity of 400 m³, the reservoir is 5 m in diameter and 24 m in length – it stores water. “It is the largest monolithic FRP tank ever made in Brazil.”
