Sekisui Plastics USA to Showcase a Range of Products at the NPE 2018

March 12 2018

Sekisui Plastics USA, a subsidiary of Sekisui Plastics Company, Ltd., a global manufacturing company headquartered in Osaka, Japan, will be exhibiting at NPE 2018 (May 7-11 in Orlando, Florida). Located at booth S14147, Sekisui Plastics will showcase products based on the company’s unique foam processing and polymerization technologies for various markets and applications. Specializing in plastics products that add value to customers and communities worldwide, the exhibit’s goal is help customers learn how Sekisui Plastics can be a partner in today’s highly competitive environment.

A major focus of the exhibit will be the PIOCELAN moldable foam resin, a hybrid resin technology offering the combined benefits of olefin and styrene. Used in automotive components for energy absorption and weight reduction, the PIOCELAN hybrid foam offers improved properties including heat resistance, fire retardancy and strength. The foam is also used as a safe and effective packing material for transporting automotive components and consumer goods such as electronics or furniture. “We have a proprietary polymer technology which significantly improves the shock resistance, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance with the addition of polyolefin which are characteristics previously regarded as weak point of EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam,” said Thomas Pontiff, President of Sekisui Plastics USA. “A major feature of the foam is that parts can easily be molded using conventional EPS molding equipment. Design freedom allows even the most complex part geometries to be matched to the shapes of materials, parts and packed contents.”

Sekisui Plastics will also be highlighting several developmental product technologies such as ELASTIL elastomeric foam resin and ST-LAYER carbon fiber composite solution. “The low density, high elasticity and outstanding resilience compared to E-TPU (expanded thermoplastic polyurethane) make ELASTIL the ideal material for a wide range of industries, including sports equipment, athletic apparel and equipment, medical applications, toys, and automotive,” Pontiff said. ST-LAYER composites offer high strength at a maximum point load that is 200% higher or more on the same weight compared to metals. “With multiple combinations of CFRP and foam core moldings, ST-LAYER composites have improved vibration-dampening, stiffness, heat and noise insulation and design flexibility for applications such as UAVs, wind turbine blades, electrical housings, and battery trays,” continued Pontiff.
