SAMPE Names ‘Chapter of the Year’ Winner, Inaugural Award Also Recognizes Runners Up

October 12 (2020

The Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) North America declared the name of the winner of the inaugural “Chapter of the Year” award, and it is the SAMPE Utah chapter, a robust organization of over 100 professional members that also sponsors the following SAMPE student chapters:

• University of Utah
• Brigham Young University - Provo
• Brigham Young University - Idaho
• Montana Tech
• Weber State University
• Utah State University
• Davis Applied Technology College/Davis Technical College
• Granite High School District (high school program for teacher training, student labs)

Due to the close nature of the competition, the awards committee agreed to award two Honorable Mentions to the SAMPE Seattle chapter, and the SAMPE Baltimore-Washington chapter.

“Selecting the SAMPE Chapter of the Year was truly a challenging proposition,” said Eric Schmid, Chairperson of the SAMPE Awards Committee. “So many of our chapters regularly demonstrate the ideals of SAMPE North America, but what set Utah apart from the others was their ongoing external relationships with groups such as UAMMI, the Utah Engineering Council, and the Utah state government in promoting composites in manufacturing across the state. SAMPE Utah also works closely with STEM groups in promoting composites as a career choice to the state’s many trade teachers and students.”
