Made with Composites, Sailing Yacht A is the World’s Tallest Superyacht

February 27 2017

The world’s tallest luxury superyacht – known as Sailing Yacht A – has begun its sail from Germany to its new owner, billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, in Russia.

The $450 million yacht features three carbon fiber masts that are each nearly 300 feet tall. The masts are the largest freestanding composite structures in the world. They are the largest of any yacht and are able to withstand twice the weight of a commercial Boeing Dreamliner wing.

The yacht’s 468-foot-long hull is made primarily with steel, but it also incorporates carbon fiber to keep the superstructure’s overall weight down.
