Applied Graphene Materials Registers for Patenting Highly Innovative “Structural Ink”

May 29 2017

Applied Graphene Materials (AGM) is one of a handful across the UK involved in the potentially multi-billion pound graphene market, racing to commercialize graphene. Shares in the firm soared 6% after the Wilton firm revealed it has registered a patent after developing a “highly innovative” new technology called Structural Ink. This which can be printed directly onto composites, that once fully commercialized will be targeted at the advanced composites industry.

Four firms are already working with AGM, exploring Structural Ink, including Milton Keynes-based Prodrive Composites, which works in the motorsport industry.

This includes a link-up with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) and aerospace giant Boeing.

Richard Scaife, AMRC composites center manager, said, “While this technology is still relatively immature in aerospace terms, we believe it highlights significant potential for performance improvements with both weight and cost savings to those designing critical composite structures.”
