Advaero New Carbon Composite for Industries Requiring Light Weight and High Strength Structures

january 23 2012

Advaero Technologies is working with Stanford University and Chomarat Textile Industries to develop a next-generation carbon fiber technology that combines Chomarat's bi-angle, non-crimp fabric with Advaero's heated vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding process (HVARTM). The aim of the project is to develop and test advanced composite structures using thin ply, bi-angle, non-crimp fiber technology. The materials are expected to become widely used in aerospace manufacturing and by other industries requiring light weight and high strength structures.

Advaero Technologies Inc. has successfully completed initial trials of a new carbon composite product that uses a unique fabric technology and Advaero’s new patent-pending heated vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (HVARTM) resin infusion process.

Advaero's HVARTM resin infusion process has been found to be effective in tests when coupled with Chomarat's newly developed 150-gsm bi-angle, non-crimp carbon fiber fabric, resulting in a composite structure with tensile strength that is three times stronger than composites made with conventional methods and standard carbon fiber fabrics. The process reportedly creates a strong carbon composite product without the need for an autoclave.
