Dallas, August 02, 2021 -- Based on recent research on the automotive semiconductor market, Lucintel is pleased to announce Texas Instrument’s TCAN4550-Q1 as the recipient of the “2021 Technology Innovation Award in the Automotive Semiconductor Market.” Lucintel chose Texas Instruments for this award because of its breakthrough technology, which helps automotive system basis chip (SBC) designers to add Controller Area Network with Flexible Data Rate (CAN FD) without changing their microcontroller, reducing design and time to market in-vehicle networks.

Texas Instrument’s TCAN4550-Q1 is an automotive system basis chip, which is the industry’s first to integrate a controller and transceiver for Controller Area Network with Flexible Data Rate (CAN FD). It uses the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus of almost any microcontroller so as to implement, with minimal hardware changes, a CAN FD interface or increase the amount of CAN FD bus ports in a system. It meets the specifications of the ISO11898-1:2015 high speed controller area network (CAN) data link layer and also meets the physical layer requirements of the ISO11898–2:2016 high speed CAN specification.

In Texas Instrument’s TCAN4550-Q1 chip, designers can maintain their existing microcontroller-based architecture and streamline CAN FD during any upgrade or expansion of CAN FD functionality or expansion in body electronics and lighting, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automotive gateway designs, which was not possible previously. It ensures integration of CAN FD, CAN, and Local Interconnect Network (LIN) transceivers and power components into single-chip solutions, thus helping designers to reduce their bill of materials (BOM), increase system performance, and get their designs to market faster, as compared to competing devices with fewer integrated components. It also helps the designers to lower the system power consumption when in standby mode through wake and inhibit features.
