The webinar was held on May 28, 2009 to explore and discuss significant changes
taking place in the rapidly growing wind energy market. Panel of five distinguished
speakers provided valuable insights on lengths of next generation blades, implications
does this have for new materials and location of production facilities, technology
developments that can drive improved costs and benefits and on various other issues.
Carl LaFrance of MFG (GE blade manufacturer) threw light on component design, materials,
tooling, process, and transportation considerations for blade manufacturing. Dr.
Gregor Daun from BASF covered the use of fast curing epoxy system for minimizing
investments and to dilute fix costs in blade production while Norman Timmins from
Lucintel explained the technological developments that are expected to drive improved
costs and benefits. Dr. Olivier Guillermin of Vistagy elaborated on novel manufacturing
methods to rapidly develop new and larger cost effective and reliable blade designs.
Rani Richardson from Dassault Systems show cased how to utilize potential opportunities
