Interplastic Introduces New Eco Series Resins
Interplastic Corporation has introduced its new “green” resins developed for cast polymer applications. The resins contain both post-consumer recycled material and rapidly renewable material and contribute to LEED points according to the U.S.
These Silmar brand resins have excellent thermal shock performance, consistent color, excellent cure properties and resistance to cracking during fabrication. The standards ASTM D5116-06 and D6670-01 were the foundation for all product specific test protocols. The industries targeted for Interplastic’s green resins will be new construction, remodeling, and other cast polymer applications. “These products provide our customers the ability to place green cast polymer marble, solid surface and engineered stone in the hands of builders and architects. Having cast surfaces that can be LEED Certified is a plus that will pull in valuable business” explains Daryl Francis, Business Manager, Marble/Casting Products.
SIL90BA-220ECO is an unsaturated polyester resin designed for general purpose cast marble applications that has 5.5% rapidly renewable content and 15% post-consumer recycled. SIL93BE-330ECO is an unsaturated polyester resin designed for solid surface applications, is acrylic modified and contains UV stabilizers. This resin has 5.5% rapidly renewable content and 15% post-consumer recycled.
SIL90BA-585ECO is an unsaturated polyester resin based on Silmar’s trademark “585” cast
marble product line applications. The rapidly renewable content for this resin is 26%. –moreLEED points are earned for both post-consumer recycled and rapidly renewable materials. The points are awarded based on percent cost of the fraction of renewable materials. For each 10% of the construction material that is post-consumer recycled and for every 2.5% of the construction material that is rapidly renewable one point is awarded. Contractors or developers may use initiatives that encourage “green” building construction.
